The Creuse and its attractions
During your weekend or holidays in the Limousin, there are a few absolute must-see places. The closest is the village of Boussac, with its old town and Jean de Brosse château, where George Sand stayed, where the famous Lady and the Unicorn tapestry was discovered. At Aubusson, the International City of Tapestry and the Art of Weaving and the House of Tapestry will introduce you to the mysteries of tapestry making. Admire a selection of ancient and modern works. Also, make sure you stop off in Toulx-Sainte-Croix, a superb granite village built around a Roman church, and Moutier d'Ahun with its impressive abbey-church.
Next to our hotel and restaurant, visit the professional tapestry maker Françoise Vernaudon, in Nouzerines along the art and crafts route. On display at Françoise Vernaudon’s workshop are a combination of old and new Aubusson tapestries as well as a range of oil paintings. We also recommend visiting the workshop of painter Jean-Luc Mauger to see his famous landscape compositions. You can also meet a producer of local cheese (cows and goats milk), as well as a saffron producer and Limousin chicken farmer. Fancy a relaxing walk though the Creuse? Be sure to head down one of the many walking trails.
