Fans of chateaux and stately homes will find plenty to visit in the Limousin. The Creuse is home to some exceptional monuments. One of the most famous is Villemonteix, a castle typical of the late middle ages with its central keep and rampart walk. At Peyrat la Nonière, Mazeau château is one of the rare edifices in the Limousin built during the Renaissance. You can also visit Chantemille château at Ahun, Bourganeuf château, with the famous Zizim tower, Arfeuille in Felletin, Margeleix where Lafayette spent part of his childhood, the ruins of the fort at Crocq or the Domaine de Banizette, with its 16th and 17th century buildings.
